Honoring Courageous Moms

Thanks to the Courageous Moms who have made Heartbeat’s Babies Go to Congress® a Success!

Babies Go to CongressHeartbeat International would like to honor the concerned moms who took their babies and their gratitude to Capitol Hill to share how they were served by Pregnancy Help Centers. Since Heartbeat’s Babies Go to Congress launched in January 2009, moms and babies, served by pregnancy centers, have met with more than 150 congressmen and key congressional staffers to deliver a clear message: “Pregnancy Help Centers are good for America.”

In addition, many of these articulate women have taken the message of hope offered by pregnancy centers even further through various media interviews. Two of our moms were recently honored in a women’s magazine, Life: Beautiful Winter 2012, and here’s a little of what they said:

“When I became pregnant, I was pressured to have an abortion. When I visited Planned Parenthood, I didn’t feel welcome or safe, but sick and ashamed. They stressed that the longer I waited, the more an abortion would cost. I also visited a pregnancy center [Crisis Pregnancy Centers of Tucson]. The workers genuinely cared for me, counseling me on all my options—abortion, parenting and adoption—and not judging me for wanting to abort. They offered to schedule an ultrasound. When I saw my baby’s heart beating, it took my breath away. I cried with joy. I never had the abortion. My baby girl, Aaliyah, became my world, a dream I never imagined. Eight years later, I’m married to a wonderful man who helped me discover what it means to have a personal relationship with Jesus, and we have a son together.”
-Danica Fountain, Tucson, ArizonaManzaler talking to the press

“When I became pregnant, I was filled with joy at the miracle, but my boyfriend wasn’t. He threatened that if I didn’t abort, he would torment me physically until I miscarried. I learned of a pregnancy center [Robbinsdale Women’s Center] where I could earn brand new baby items in exchange for learning about healthy pregnancy and baby care. Through the program, I started to see myself as God sees me. I learned to face the pain in my life through Christ—and then move beyond it. I developed a new mind-set: I wouldn’t abort the baby; I would abort the plan for the abortion. When my son, Keyanu, was born, I realized I’d been blessed. Today I work for Teen Challenge, helping women in crisis discover and recover through the love of God.”
-Manzaler Lohrey, Brooklyn Park, Minnesota

You are invited to join with Heartbeat International in paying a special tribute to Danica and Manzaler and all the courageous moms who have participated in Heartbeat’s Babies Go to Congress by making a donation in their name so that Heartbeat International can continue to make an impact, not only in the halls of Congress, but in the hearts of Americans everywhere.

Take time to meet the new group of moms and babies joining us for Babies Go to Congress this week!
