Do you ever experience this after spending time with a client?

"I wish I had remembered to say…"
"I wonder if I explained that correctly…"
"I need to know more about…"

Many of us that see clients often experience the nagging doubt that we did not reach them in an effective manner.

Do you who want to gain confidence and take your current skills and knowledge to an even higher level? Then consider ConCert, a dynamic course that will challenge and equip you to serve the clients that come to your center with excellence.

ConCert is an advanced-level Consultant Certificate Training Program that is designed to address many aspects of the pregnancy center experience.

It is a 16-week distance learning program created by Heartbeat International thanks to grants provided through Project REACH. Project REACH promoted and led the evaluation of the Pilot Program in 2001.

ConCert is for all pregnancy options consultants who want to gain confidence and take their current skills and knowledge to an even higher level. A pregnancy options consultant is anyone who works with clients in a life-affirming center. This could be a volunteer counselor, program director, or other paid staff members.

Since this is a distance learning course, self-motivation will be a critical aspect for success. ConCert will require an eight to twelve hour-per-week commitment. Students communicate with the instructor via e-mail and/or phone from home or office. There is freedom to work on assignments on your own time, yet structure and due dates help toward completion of the course.

Students who successfully complete the course receive a certificate of completion.

Master's International School of Divinity, Evansville, Indiana, offers six units (two course credits) for successful completion of ConCert toward a degree in any "Life Issues Counseling" degree concentration. Master's International School of Divinity offers Christ-centered and Bible-based distance education (off-campus programs of practical and professional ministry education). Visit their website or call 800/933-1445 for more information.

What Difference Will it Make if I Take the ConCert Course?

You will experience personal growth as we spend time on reflective topics such as Casting the Vision of Hope, Who We Are as Children of God, Made in the Image of God, and Sacred Sexuality.

At Heartbeat, we know how important it is for the consultant to have an excellent knowledge base. The areas of knowledge are Fertility & Conception, Embryonic & Fetal Development, Contraceptives, Sexually Transmitted Diseases, Chastity, Physical and Emotional Effects of Abortion, Single Parenting, Marriage, and Adoption.

Even though knowledge is key to being effective in a consulting session, practical applications are also crucial. ConCert will assist you in sharpening your listening skills, showing empathy, presenting options thoroughly and objectively, and sharing with clients the value they have in Christ.

If you have not yet completed the LOVE Approach training through your Center, contact Heartbeat and ask about having a Heartbeat Consultant come to you!

Your center’s participation and the cooperation of your Director or Program Services Director is a pre-requisite to the ConCert course. It is highly recommended that the Center Director or the Program Services Director take the course first or participate with the other students.

Study guides are provided to help you through the information and to prepare you for the weekly quizzes. Periodically you will be required to turn in journal and verbatim assignments.

Depending on the format you choose, you need to have regular access to a computer (an e-mail address).

To earn the certificate, you must complete all reading assignments, watch all required videos, complete the journal assignments, and score at least an 80% on quizzes plus the final exam. The Center Director will assist Heartbeat by completing the evaluation form provided by Heartbeat.

What Students Say

"As the new executive director, I am trying to discern who to have take the course next. I feel I gained a lot of info and feedback on counseling techniques, which, in turn, helped me in training new volunteers here. I feel the well-rounded nature of the program would benefit any volunteer." - ConCert Student

"I think the more we learn about how to listen and help, collect valuable knowledge and understand why women choose some of the decisions they do, the more we can help them make better choices. I will be keeping all of my work as reference in the future as well as the excellent information presented in this course." - ConCert Student

"Each time I came into contact with a client, I could see and realize how much more effective I was becoming as a helper." - ConCert Student

"I have taken many courses over the years...but this was so comprehensive, so focused and covered all aspects of the culture of death as it exists today and how to combat it. This is a better way. The clients are more receptive to it." - ConCert Student
