The next Babies Go to Congress event is scheduled for: July 18-19, 2012
With more than 100 participants to date, our Babies Go to Congress has reached more than 150 congressional offices with the powerful message: “Pregnancy Help Centers are good for America!” Click here to see if your state has been represented.
Heartbeat is currently scheduling meetings with Congressional leaders to introduce them to clients, their babies and the ministries that helped them in their time of need. This will be a wonderful opportunity to let these leaders see and hear for themselves the great work of pregnancy help ministries through the client’s own words. We have had babies go to congress as young as six weeks and as old as 18 on-site. We realize some centers have been providing services for four decades, so it would be awesome to find “babies” in their thirties to participate. (Click here to get a full recap of our latest event.)
We want your center represented! Plan now to join Heartbeat’s Babies Go to Congress July 18-19, 2012.
Here’s all you need to do:
- Select a client with a compelling story who can travel with you to Washington D.C. Invite someone who can articulate how your center helped her. Ask her to write out her testimony.
- Get a signed release from this client allowing your center to use her story and image on the Internet and in national news media. (Download Heartbeat's release form here.)
- Submit a one-page Community Impact Report on the positive ways your center has impacted your community. (Download a guide for creating a report.)
- Send these materials and the name of your Congressman or district number to Virginia Cline at

The impact...
“I am so grateful for the opportunity we had to participate in Babies Go to Congress and would welcome the opportunity to go again. My client, Stephanie, her daughter and I were able to meet with our congressional leaders and enlighten them on how we serve a vital need in the Twin Cities, and that pregnancy centers are good for America!” -Peggy Benicke, Robbinsdale Women’s Center
“Sometimes the passion for the work gets lost in the everyday battles we face but crossing the streets of Washington D.C., I was reminded of the verse: ‘How precious are the feet of them who bring good news.’ We were bringing great news to our Nation’s Capitol. Pregnancy centers are good for America. Pregnancy centers are committed. Pregnancy centers save lives. Pregnancy centers are here to stay. I was blessed to be able to tell it and even more blessed to live it.” -Rita Reyes, Choices of the Heart
“I found the day educational as well as inspiring and productive. I look forward to participating in more Heartbeat-affiliated events and meeting more of the wonderful people in the Heartbeat network!” -Kristen Sullivan, Northwest Pregnancy Center
