Statement from Heartbeat International, Care Net and NIFLA
Re: Patriot Insurance
As you may have heard in the news, Congressman Rick Renzi, founder of Patriot Insurance Agency, has been indicted by a federal grand jury. Care Net, Heartbeat International, and NIFLA have all had the opportunity to review the pertinent documents, and we wanted to share some thoughts with you.
First, we are keeping Congressman Renzi and his family in our prayers and hope that you will do the same. Rick Renzi has been a strong supporter of our movement, championing the work of PRCs on Capitol Hill, and was instrumental in creating an affordable insurance program for pregnancy centers and maternity homes. For that, we will always be grateful.
With compassion and concern for our friend, our top priority in addressing this situation is ensuring that our affiliates continue to be provided with adequate insurance options. Through Patriot Insurance Agency, many of our affiliates have purchased insurance from Spirit Mountain Insurance Company Risk Retention Group. At this time, we have no reason to believe that Patriot Insurance (the agent) or Spirit Mountain (the insurance company) will be directly affected by these events. Spirit Mountain is not involved in this matter. We are in receipt of a letter from Jon Harkavy, Executive Vice President and General Counsel for Spirit Mountain, which assures us that our insurance company, Spirit Mountain, is in good standing and is financially sound. This letter is available to our affiliates upon request.
We also have no reason to believe that the agent we are using, Patriot Insurance, will be directly affected. We believe it is in our centers’ best interest to have appropriate insurance in place and we believe that the insurance program offered through Patriot Insurance and Spirit Mountain will continue to meet the needs of affiliates insured under those policies.
