"Reach down your hand from on high; deliver me..."
- Psalm 144:7
REACH is what the Lord has called us to. Through Option Line® (800-395-HELP) the national 24-hour call center operated seven days a week, we reach as many people as possible who are abortion vulnerable and those who are hurting from past abortions. We provide a pro-life response (in English and Spanish) to about 20 contacts (calls, emails, instant messages) per hour. It takes $40 to keep the state-of-the-art system operational for one hour. Would you sponsor one hour (or more) per month? Read more...

"Rescue me, O Lord, from evil men; protect me from men of violence.”
- Psalm 140:1
RESCUE is our main work. It is what we know the Lord is accomplishing through Heartbeat’s pregnancy center network – nearly 1,100 pregnancy center affiliates that are saving approximately 2,000 babies per week and helping over one million women every year. Heartbeat provides cutting-edge training and materials for pregnancy centers so that now many of them have even become medical clinics where mothers can have a diagnosis of pregnancy and bond with their babies through ultrasound. It takes $31 a month to cover the first year’s services to a brand new center. Would you sponsor a new center? Read more...

“He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted…to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor … They will renew the ruined cities that have been devastated for generations.” -Isaiah 61:1-4
RENEW (URBAN INITIATIVE) is what Heartbeat has recently been called to do in our major cities, where sometimes half of all pregnancies end in abortion (about a third of all pregnancies in the United States end in abortion) and where abortion clinics can outnumber pregnancy centers 10 or 20 to one! Heartbeat is focusing on American cities in a strategic effort to bring the option LIFE and light where there is now only the darkness of abortion. It is going to be warfare at its greatest and it will be costly but we will prevail because of Whom we serve. It costs Heartbeat $265 a day to pursue this renewal of our cities. Is there anything better to invest in? Read more...

He hears us.” – 1 John 5:14

- God provides the wisdom to discern His plan for Heartbeat International.
- Heartbeat International receives the resources it needs to fulfill God’s plan for the ministry.
- More women will contact the pregnancy centers for help with their pregnancy decision and that their hearts will be receptive to Life.

The Donor Bill of Rights**
Heartbeat International is committed to the highest standard of ethics in all of our operations, including fundraising and development. We have adopted the Donor Bill of Rights, developed and endorsed by the leading professionals in development and some of the nation’s largest charitable organizations.
Philanthropy is based on voluntary action for the common good. It is a tradition of giving and sharing that is primary to the quality of life. To ensure that philanthropy merits the respect and trust of the general public, and that donors and prospective donors can have full confidence in the nonprofit organizations and causes they are asked to support, we declare that all donors have these rights:
I. |
To be informed of the organization's mission, of the way the organization intends to use donated resources, and of its capacity to use donations effectively for their intended purposes. |
II. |
To be informed of the identity of those serving on the organization's governing board, and to expect the board to exercise prudent judgment in its stewardship responsibilities. |
III. |
To have access to the organization's most recent financial statements. |
IV. |
To be assured their gifts will be used for the purposes for which they were given. |
V. |
To receive appropriate acknowledgement and recognition. |
VI. |
To be assured that information about their donation is handled with respect and with confidentiality to the extent provided by law. |
VII. |
To expect that all relationships with individuals representing organizations of interest to the donor will be professional in nature. |
VIII. |
To be informed whether those seeking donations are volunteers, employees of the organization or hired solicitors. |
IX. |
To have the opportunity for their names to be deleted from mailing lists that an organization may intend to share. |
X. |
To feel free to ask questions when making a donation and to receive prompt, truthful and forthright answers. |
|
**The Donor Bill of Rights was created by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy (AHP), the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), and the Giving Institute: Leading Consultants to Non-Profits. It has been endorsed by numerous organizations such as: United Way of America, Council for Resource Development, National Committee on Planned Giving, National Catholic Development Conference, and the Independent Sector.
Standards of Responsible Stewardship
Some of Heartbeat International’s specific policies that ensure that our donor’s rights are respected include the following General Standards of Responsible Stewardship:
| 1. |
We have an independent, professional Board of Directors that meets quarterly, establishes policy, and reviews accomplishments. The Board Finance Committee reviews all financial statements including the annual audit, and has direct communication with our auditors, McClintock and Associates, PC. |
| 2. |
We have an annual audit provided by an independent certified public accounting firm in accordance with auditing standards generally accepted in the USA, and our financial statements are prepared in accordance with accounting principles accepted in the USA. |
| 3. |
Management and financial controls are in place to assure that all resources are used in conformity with applicable federal and state laws and regulations to accomplish the exempt purposes for which they are intended. |
| 4. |
We will provide, upon request, current audited financial statements and other disclosures as the law may require. We will also provide, upon request, a rull report on any specific project for which we are requesting gifts. |
| 5. |
We avoid any conflicts of interest and we comply with a comprehensive conflict of interest policy in our By-Laws. |
| 6. |
We comply with the following standards in fundraising:
- We are truthful in all communications;
- We provide description of realistic expectations for what donor gifts will actually accomplish;
- We honor each donor’s intent for the use of each gift;
- We encourage donors who are considering commitments on major estate assets to use the services of their attorneys, accountants, and other professional advisors;
- We do not allow fundraising consultants or our staff to be paid directly or indirectly on a percentage of charitable contributions raised;
- We do not allow tax-deductible gifts to be used to pass money or benefits to any named individual for personal use;
- We describe property or gifts in kind accurately, leaving it to the donor to determine fair market value for tax-deductible purposes;
- We make every effort to avoid accepting a gift from a prospective donor which would place a hardship on the donor or place the donor’s future well-being in jeopardy.

Our Relationship with Our Donors as We Grow in Faith and Love
As a Christian organization, Heartbeat International considers it a privilege to be in partnership with our donors in this great work of the Lord. We see the “miracles” that our Lord works daily through our labors and through the resources provided by our donors, and we want all of our donors to have the same faith-building experiences that we do. Thus we all grow closer to the Lord as we see His power and grace and as we come to know that He is using us all as His instruments to bring Light and Life into the world.
