I am Peggy Hartshorn, I’m the President of Heartbeat International. I want to let you know that Heartbeat International is pusuing a major initiative that will mean more babies will live. There are specific areas in America within the "blue counties" that have the highest abortion rates, yet no pregnancy centers.

You’ve probably heard the expression: “The best defense is a good offense.” In an effort to defend the most vulnerable unborn babies in America...Heartbeat International is going on the offensive! But I need your immediate financial partnership today if we are to have any chance to succeed!

Let me explain. Right now in America there is a huge disparity in where the vast majority of abortion death clinics are located and where life-saving Pregnancy Resource Centers (PRCs) are located. The distribution is similar to the November 2004 electoral map. The “blue counties” are where abortion clinics are located. The “red counties” are where most PRCs are located.

The fact of the matter is this: Most abortion clinics are located in major cities ... while most Pregnancy Resource Centers are located in rural and suburban America. So although the pro-life men and women who man our Heartbeat affiliate PRCs are doing fantastic work–they save the lives of 2,000 precious babies a week!–it’s not enough. What’s worse...we don’t have enough life-saving PRCs where they’re needed most...in the major cities of the U.S.! For example:

• In urban Pittsburgh, there are 5 abortion facilities and there are NO pregnancy resource centers;
• In Los Angeles, within one mile of a Heartbeat affiliate, there are 8 major abortion clinics;
• In Miami, there are 28 major abortion mills, 3 hospitals facilities and 20 private physicians offering abortion services...but only 1 pregnancy center providing medical services within the city limits.

As you can see, of the 4,000 babies who are killed by abortion every day in America, the vast majority of them are being killed in abortion mills hidden deep inside our major cities. With your help today, Heartbeat International is going to change that! And here’s how...

Heartbeat is pursuing its URBAN INITIATIVE. The goal is to build a fund that will develop pregnancy resource centers in major cities that are located in states that would keep abortion legal even if the Supreme Court were ever to overturn its infamous (and unconstitutional) Roe v. Wade decision.

Having researched the problem extensively, Heartbeat launched the first phase of its URBAN INITIATIVE in Miami, Florida. As I told you a moment ago, there are 28 major abortion mills operating in Miami...and now there is one ultrasound-equipped pregnancy center with plans to start two more pro-life centers.

Heartbeat will soon select strategic locations for Pregnancy Resource Centers in two other major cities! Each center will be strategically located close to major abortion clinics and offer complete medical services–including ultrasound machines–to mothers, their babies, and their families. We have asked the Lord for $250,000 to start a center.

In this way Heartbeat intends to go on the OFFENSIVE and give “abortion vulnerable” mothers the information and services they need that will enable them to CHOOSE LIFE for their babies...and for themselves. As part of the strategy we have joined forces with specific strategic partners who will be bringing light and LIFE to other areas of darkness.

The price tag to do our part, however, will not be small. Initial cost estimates are as high as $2,000,000 to grow this initiative. This money is needed to fund:

• LEADERSHIP for the project
• TRAVEL expenses to help set up the Pregnancy Resource Centers
• NETWORKING within each community to build support and promote the PRC
• PURCHASE medical equipment (including ultrasound machines) materials, and supplies.
• TRAINING for PRC staff and volunteers
• START-UP COSTS to open the PRCs and operate them until they can stand on their own.
