Explanation of Codes

Codes are provided to give a general idea of the services provided by the centers/agencies.  Contact the center directly to determine specific services provided.

* - In the USA listing, those coded  *  belong to one of the US affiliation groups that has officially committed to the standards expressed in the “Our Commitment of Care.” These are being adopted as “industry-wide” standards.  It’s presumed that those not coded  *  also follow these standards.  A listing will be removed if information is obtained that indicates the organization does not comply with these standards. M –  Some medical services (especially to clients still deciding among their alternatives), primarily pregnancy testing and ultrasound to confirm a pregnancy; possibly STD testing, limited pre-natal care, health assessments; and general services such as listed under R and post-abortion. Staffed by medical personnel and lay volunteers

R – Wide range of resources for those who may be pregnant, undecided about alternatives, or need post abortion support including: pregnancy testing, crisis intervention for those deciding among alternatives, peer or professional counseling, support groups, adoption support, classes, housing, material aid (clothing, baby items, etc.), community referrals, community education programs and post abortion programs.  Staffed by professionals in various fields and lay volunteers.

B – Support services for pregnant women, primarily for those who have already decided to continue their pregnancies including: pregnancy testing, peer support, classes, material aid, and housing.  Staffed primarily by volunteers.

L – Primarily hotline counseling, phone support, and referrals.  Staffed by professionals and/or lay volunteers.

H – Primarily housing in a group setting. May offer educational programs open to those not being housed and may be licensed adoption agency. Staffed by professionals and/or lay personnel.

A – Licensed, nonprofit adoption agencies, may provide housing. Staffed primarily by professionals.

S – Licensed social service agencies.  Services may include foster care, counseling, education, family support of many kinds, possibly also licensed adoption agency. Staffed primarily by professional social workers and/or counselors.

P – Primarily post abortion support, possibly including individual and group counseling by professionals and/or lay personnel.
