Heartbeat Staff
Heartbeat's staff of 22 full- and part-time employees is led by its first paid full-time president (since 1993), Peggy Hartshorn, Ph.D. Peggy has been active in the pro-life movement since 1973. She is editor and author of many Heartbeat resources as well as articles in other pro-life publications. Other staff members include:
Administration
- Peggy Hartshorn, Ph.D., President, oversees all aspects of Heartbeat International.
- Peg, Legal Consultant, advises the President and Heartbeat Board on a variety of legal issues and provides general legal education to affiliates.
- Kathy, Administrative Assistant, supports the President.
Affiliate Services
- Jor-El, Vice President of Affiliate Services, supports Heartbeat’s affiliates by developing and providing relevant, current, and effective programs and services to help affiliates provide the best service possible to their clients.
- John, Executive Director of the Urban Initiative, oversees Urban Initiative.
- Betty, Director of Training for Affiliate Services, provides consultation to centers (free to affiliates) via phone, fax, and/or e-mail, in all areas of center operation (Board, staffing, volunteers, training, growth, resources, programs, latest information, etc.).
- Nathan, Director of the International Program and Public Policy, develops and oversees programs for international affiliates. He is also in charge of the public policy.
- Chris, Medical Clinic Specialist, provides consultation to centers in the process of adding medical Services.
- Katy, Sexual Integrity™ Program Specialist, oversees all aspects of Heartbeat's popular Sexual Integrity™ Program (SIP), bringing on-site training to affiliates worldwide.
- Debra, Training Specialist, oversees the scheduling and implementation of Heartbeat's on-site and distance learning programs.
- Debbie, Affiliation Coordinator, oversees the affiliation process and coordinates data and news.
- Molly, Administrative Assistant, assists the affiliate services staff.
Development
- Lindsay, Development Director, develops relationships with Heartbeat friends and ministry partners.
- Virginia, Fundraising Coordinator, assists the President with fundraising, public relations, and marketing.
- Anita, Administrative Assistant, supports the fundraising, marketing, and public relations efforts.
- Thomas, Direct Mail Specialist, assists with donor-acquisition campaign.
Operations
- Bobbie, Director of Administrative Services, oversees office operations, human resources, and finances.
- Andrea, Event Coordinator, coordinates trainings including national conferences, as well as assists with marketing projects, and website development.
- Leslie, Writer/Editor, writes and edits training and promotional materials to support affiliate ministries and promote Heartbeat.
- Sandy, Office Assistant, welcomes callers and visitors and assists with mailings and orders.
- Mike, Bookkeeper, performs bookkeeping duties and processes resource orders and training registrations.
- Connie, Receptionist, welcomes callers and visitors to Heartbeat.

Heartbeat International is governed by a Board of Directors representing all areas of the U.S., and various professions and ministries.
Heartbeat also has several councils:
- a Medical Advisory Council with experts to consult on medical issues.
- an International Council with representatives from six different countries.
- a President's Council with affiliate representatives from every region.
In addition, Heartbeat has independent consultants who provide training and consultation to affiliates around the world.
