Medical Specialist

Medical Specialist (part time; 20 hours per week) needed to facilitate relationships with current and potential Heartbeat affiliated organizations.

The position will assist in promoting communication with affiliates and related pro-life centers and organizations, providing educational information, resources, and services to support centers in the area of medical services, as well as assisting in the development, planning, and orchestration of Ministry Services’ programming, events, and materials related to administration of medical services. Experience in the pro-life movement, including experience with pregnancy centers required. Experience with medical conversion and medical practice in a pregnancy center preferred. R.N nursing degree also preferred though will consider other medical training and credentialing (such as RDMS) and/or combination of education and experience. Bachelor of Science degree preferred.

Strong oral and written communication skills essential for interfacing with staff, affiliates and the general public. A working knowledge of Microsoft Word also valuable. Must have a desire to work as a team to serve HB's various constituencies to support Heartbeat International's life-affirming ministry and God's plan for our sexuality and to demonstrate commitment to Heartbeat’s prolife mission, vision, core operations values and core beliefs in the execution of position responsibilities. Women's Help Center - Jacksonville, Florida

This particular center is located adjacent to one of the largest abortion providers in Northeast Florida, and much of the counseling done at this center happens outside as women are walking toward the abortion clinic. Resident Director

The Resident Director will be present on site five (24-hour) days each week. She will perform administrative tasks, supervise and manage program staff, and oversee daily house management. The Resident Director will be responsible for enforcing house policies and administering discipline when necessary. Resident Assistant

The Resident Assistant will work a 40-hour week in addition to remaining at the house (on call) overnight two nights each week. She will be the acting director of the house in the absence of the Resident Director. Her responsibilities include supervising daily house management, ensuring that residents complete household duties, and enforcing house policies by reporting incidents to the Resident Director. The Resident Assistant will teach quarterly life skills classes and provide emotional counseling as she mentors and disciples residents. Performs other duties as assigned by Resident Director.

Reports to: Resident Director

Qualifications: The Resident Assistant must have an Associate’s degree (Bachelor’s preferred) or commensurate experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a team member in seeing that the philosophy, purpose, and objectives of the house are being implemented with each young woman
  • Be a supportive, loving friend to each of the young women living in the home while maintaining a professional distance.
  • Be a team member under the direction of the Resident Director and Executive Director to see that all rules, state regulations, and disciplines of the program are followed
  • When on duty, perform tasks under the direction of the Resident Director as needed
  • Assist Residents with homework or Bible studies as need
  • Run errands (grocery store, gas up vehicles)
  • Be on call at all times to provide coverage for the home or accompany the Resident Director in the event of an emergency

Guidance Counselor

The Counselor will work a flexible 40-hour work week based on each resident’s schedule. She will meet with residents individually at least three times each week for at least one hour a session and maintain daily session records. She will be responsible to assist residents in setting up a personal growth plan and guide them in accomplishing all program and personal goals and objectives. Her additional responsibilities will be to teach quarterly life skills classes, provide spiritual and emotional counseling, and facilitate life transition upon exit from the program. Performs other duties as assigned by Program Director.

Reports to: Resident Director

Qualifications: The Counselor must have a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or Counseling.

Responsibilities:

  • Be responsible for weekly counseling sessions with each young woman to help her in her decision-making planning for the future, and overall well being.
  • Coordinate educational plans with Residents and the Tutor or other educational services.
  • Be a liaison on behalf of the young women with social service agencies and families.
  • Initiate weekly case reviews with House staff (part of staff meeting).
  • Be responsible for maintenance and upkeep of each young woman’s file, including Individual Service Plan (ISP), progress reports, and other paperwork in compliance with state regulations.
  • Be responsible for discharge planning and follow-up for each young woman from a social work perspective and make appropriate referrals to community resources and services needed by the young woman.
  • Maintain confidentiality for every young woman and her child.

Parent Assistant

The Parent Assistant will assist mothers with the care of their children while she participates in the program components. The Parent Assistant will supervise and attend to the basic needs of residents’ children while their mothers attend class, appointments, or their places of employment. Minimum 10 hours/week. Maximum 30 hours/week.

Reports to: Resident Director

Qualifications: The Parent Assistant must have 5+ years of experience caring for children ages 0-3. This may include time as a parent.

Responsibilities:

  • Keep children clean by changing their diapers and/or clothes when necessary
  • Organize toys and materials and ensure a tidy activity area
    Sterilize and prepare bottles
  • Feed the children with food and snacks provided by their mothers
  • Engage children in books and music for their mental development
  • Teach children in health and personal hygiene, resting, and proper toileting
  • Read to toddlers and teach them easy painting, drawing, handicrafts, and songs
