Question: What is Sexual Integrity Essentials?

Answer: Heartbeat International’s Sexual Integrity™ Essentials is a new manual designed to equip your center with the tools you need to develop your own Sexual Integrity program.

The manual includes:

A comprehensive review of the Sexual Integrity concept and program.
A companion CD with key tools for use in Pregnancy Help Organizations.
An in-depth explanation of the Four Biblical Pillars of Sexual Integrity.

Question: What is the difference between Sexual Integrity Essentials and the Sexual Integrity Implementation Manual?

Answer: Sexual Integrity Essentials is a streamlined version of the Sexual Integrity Program Implementation Manual. Sexual Integrity Essentials is more concise, easier to read, and gives you the key information you need to develop a Sexual Integrity program in your center.

Question: I have the SIP Implementation Manual. Do I need the Sexual Integrity Essentials manual?

Answer: If you already have the SIP Implementation Manual, you do not necessarily need Essentials. Essentials streamlines the program to provide a more concise, easier to read format that gives you the key information you need to develop a Sexual Integrity program in your center. Just as you are free to pick and choose which materials from Heartbeat you use when creating your Sexual Integrity Program, you are also free to choose which manual you choose to use as your primary manual for staff and volunteers.

Question: How long has Sexual Integrity Essentials been out?

Answer: Essentials was first published in November 2012.

Question: Can I still use the other tools I've purchased for the Sexual Integrity Program at my center (DVD series, Brochures, Charting resources, etc.)?

Answer: Yes, Sexual Integrity Essentials provides guidelines for how you can utilize all the resources Heartbeat International has developed as part of the Sexual Integrity Program. Essentials also includes guidelines for selecting additional resources to best suit the unique needs of your center and your clients.

Question: If we've already been trained using the SIP Training Workbook or SIP Implementation Manual do I need to retrain my staff?

Answer: Since the principles of Sexual Integrity are expressed in all of Heartbeat's Sexual Integrity materials, it is not necessary to retrain your staff on Sexual Integrity Essentials. However, to be sure your staff has the latest information related to Sexual Integrity, we recommend that any new staff be trained using Sexual Integrity Essentials. An online training for Sexual Integrity Essentials is available through the Heartbeat Academy.

Question: Do I need to be formally trained?

Answer: No, you don’t need to be formally trained in The Sexual Integrity Program to utilize these resources. We do, however, recommend formal training, whether on-site at your center or at Heartbeat International’s Annual Conference.

Training will help you understand the bigger picture of Sexual Integrity, show you how the Sexual Integrity Program works, teach you how to use all the tools with clients, and give you a good start in implementing the program in your center. Executive directors and others have said formal training has helped staff and volunteers feel more confident working with clients.

A supplementary online training for Sexual Integrity Essentials is also available through the Heartbeat Academy. If you already have the program, but have never been formally trained,contact usfor more information.

Question: What if I have questions?

Question: Is this training the same as Natural Family Planning training?

Answer: Heartbeat’s definition of fertility education is not natural family planning, nor is it helping women achieve or avoid pregnancy. Fertility education is simply teaching a woman how her body works so that she is empowered to respect her body. When women understand this powerful gift they are:

more likely to choose life for their baby.
more likely to stop premarital sexual activity.
more likely to make wiser choices with men.
more likely to respect their own bodies.

This 360º Center Assessment is Heartbeat International’s endeavor to bring a fresh yet seasoned perspective to the efforts of your life-affirming organization. Heartbeat involves several staff members in a penetrating look into the various fundamental, formational, and future-oriented aspects that shape the ministry and its outcomes.

Though this is not an exhaustive review, it is an extensive one that looks in-depth at the core areas:

Our team spends many hours, in advance of a two-day on-site visit, reviewing documents, analyzing various points of data, gathering additional information, and preparing specific questions for the on-site evaluation. All of our observations, commendations, and recommendations are compiled into a report presented to the governing leadership (board and ED/CEO).

HEARTBEAT GUIDELINES: All exhibitors must abide by the Heartbeat Principles. Heartbeat International reserves the right to accept or deny, at its sole discretion, sponsors and exhibit space to organizations that it deems inconsistent with or contrary to Heartbeat’s Principles.

Exhibitors propose and offer, through education and creative services, positive choices for women challenged by pregnancy.
Exhibitors shall not discriminate in their services on the basis of race, creed, color, national origin, age, or marital status.
Exhibitors' services are personal, confidential, and non-judgmental.
Exhibitors shall not advise, provide, or refer for abortion, abortifacients, or contraceptives.
Exhibitors encourage chastity as a positive lifestyle choice.

SECURITY & LIABILITY:Exhibitor and Heartbeat International agree to defend, indemnify and hold each other, their affiliates, officers, directors, managers and employees harmless from and against all claims for loss or damage, including reasonable attorneys’ fees, costs and expenses incurred as a result of any claims related to or arising out of either Party’s performance of its duties under this Agreement, unless such loss or damage shall arise from a Party’s own negligence, misconduct or gross negligence. In the foregoing sentence, the words “loss or damage” shall include, but is not limited to, loss or damage arising directly or indirectly from any actions or omissions of any employee or authorized representative of either Party. The exhibitor understands that neither Heartbeat International nor the Hotel maintains insurance covering the exhibitor’s property and it is the sole responsibility of the exhibitor to obtain such insurance. The exhibitor understands that it also has the sole responsibility to pay any applicable taxes, including, but not limited to, sales tax, that may arise out of the exhibitor’s use of the exhibition premises.

CANCELLATION: If written notification of cancellation is received by March 28, 2025, all exhibitor monies, less a $75 processing fee, will be refunded. Should the State of Alabama enforce regulations that make an in-person event impossible, all elements of the conference will be transferred to the Virtual Platform. Your sponsorship will be guaranteed on the Virtual Platform at the same level and any monies received beyond the cost of the Virtual Sponsorship at the level you selected will be reimbursed within 30 days of the Conference.

USE OF SPACE: Exhibitor shall not assign, sublet, or share the space allotted without the knowledge and consent of Heartbeat International.

EXHIBIT SETUP AND TEARDOWN: The 2025 conference begins with registration at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 30, and runs through Friday, May 2. Heartbeat International has contracted with the hotel to allow for exhibit set-up beginning at 1:00 p.m. CT on Tuesday, April 29. We request that you make every effort to have your exhibit set up by 8:00 a.m. CT on April 30; however, if you cannot come until later, you must make arrangements with Heartbeat International.

Failure to occupy the exhibition space does not release the exhibitor from the obligation to pay the full exhibitor fee. Please contact us at 888-550-7577 if special arrangements for late arrival need to be made.

RECORDING RELEASE: The Heartbeat Conference will be recorded. Your registration constitutes your organization's consent to such recording for the booth representatives and/or any guests.

Choose Life License Plates

Submit the Virginia Choose Life Interest
and Eligibility Confirmation Form

In 2009 the Virginia Assembly established Choose Life license plates to be issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles. Heartbeat International agreed to the legislators’ request to serve the Virginia pregnancy help providers as the distributor of the proceeds collected and has continued to distribute the funds each year.

Eligibility is defined by the legislation as:

Pregnancy center that is a 501c3 tax-exempt organization
Officially committed to the Commitment of Care and Competence (Current affiliates of a national organization recognizing the Commitment as a condition of affiliation need only indicate affiliation(s). Others need to adopt a board resolution and forward a duly signed copy of the Commitment.)
Agree to use the funds specifically “to provide services to pregnant women and women who suspect that they may be pregnant in Virginia.”

For organizations that haven't participated but would like to, please complete and sign the attached form and provide the necessary documentation postmarked no later than December 5th. You may also complete this form online at HeartbeatServices.org under the Connections heading select “Choose Life.” Multiple location centers need only complete one form, indicating the primary/main location, but must include all additional location information requested.

We appreciate the work of all pregnancy help efforts in Virginia and are pleased to serve you in this role at our own expense. No Virginia Choose Life monies are retained by Heartbeat International or provided to any organization other than indicated by the legislation. Any monies refused or not distributed will be returned to the Commonwealth of Virginia. We intend to distribute proportional payments in December

VIRGINIA ACTS OF ASSEMBLY -- 2009 SESSION contains the criteria for distribution of Choose Life License Plate funds and is viewable in entirety here.

The following extract is from Section 3 Paragraph B:

These funds shall be paid annually to Heartbeat International, Inc., to be distributed in equal grants to pregnancy center locations in Virginia that are tax-exempt organizations under § 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code and officially committed to Heartbeat International's "Our Commitment of Care" standards. Choose Life Virginia Fund distributed funds are to be used to provide services to pregnant women and women who suspect that they may be pregnant in Virginia and may be refused within 60 days by return to the Choose Life Virginia Fund.
