4 Myths about Voting this Election Season
We all know we should be voting, but is it really that important? After all, we’re not even picking the president this year.
The United States has a surprisingly low turnout of voters, hovering between 55 and 60 percent in any given election. Why can’t we find it in ourselves to get out there and vote our values? Could it be that we believe one or more of these myths?
Myth #1: Midterm elections don’t matter anyway.
There’s a lot of hype for presidential elections, but for some reason, midterm elections don’t seem to matter as much. Nothing could be further from the truth. As powerful as the Presidential office is, he can—ideally—do almost nothing without the support of the Senate and the House. (We saw a government shut down just last year due to House and Senate disagreements on the federal budget.) Do you know who is running for the Senate or House positions open in your state and district? What about the Gubernatorial or Mayoral races? These matter!
Myth #2: There are no important races this year.
With all 435 voting seats in the House of Representatives and 33 of the 100 Senate seats up for a vote, no one can deny the importance of this year’s races. In addition, 36 of the 50 states are electing governors, and many U.S. cities are electing mayors. Do you know who’s running in your district? These are the people who make the decisions that keep our local, state, and national governments running. We need to make sure they are the people who are going to truly care for the people—both in the womb and out of the womb.
Myth #3: My vote doesn’t make a difference.
We’ve heard this one before. Every vote matters. Every single vote matters. Every life changes the world in an unrepeatable and irreplaceable way. And so does every vote. If we stay home on Election Day, our prolife candidates will have to stay home too! What we do and don’t do makes a difference, so let’s make it a positive one.
Myth #4: I can’t talk about political issues or encourage others to vote.
Untrue! While certain regulations may apply to what your pregnancy help organization can do, you are well within your rights as an individual citizen to encourage those within your sphere of influence to head to the polls. There is everything to gain, and nothing to lose when we encourage our community to vote their values.
Don’t believe these myths this season—vote your values instead. Generations yet to be born are counting on us!

South Korea: Women's Hope Center
Korea’s abortion rate is estimated at 75 percent, driven by the international sex trade and intense cultural pressure to abort pregnancies outside of wedlock.
Women's Hope Center (WHC) exists to see every life valued from conception and every exploited woman in Korea free, healed and empowered.
We currently offer crisis pregnancy and post-abortion counseling nationwide via our online chat and in-person in 5 major cities, as well as educational seminars, long-term housing, and education and job training opportunities.
We are building a social enterprise to provide safe employment to our clients, and also hope to establish a “safe house” for sexually abused women.
Client Testimony:
This boy’s teen mom saw her baby's heartbeat on an ultrasound at 6 weeks. From then she began to run to save his life. She survived severe beatings before she found WHC, arriving only with the clothes on her back. Once her son was born her parents forced her to give him up for adoption but recently, miraculously, she was allowed to get him back though at the expense of being severed from her parents.
She chose her son.
She is staying at a short-term shelter close enough to her high school so she can complete her last semester of high school.
Thereafter, in December, they will be returning to the House of Peace (an apartment owned by WHC) for long-term care and support (for job training and potential employment in our future social business).
All financial gifts received designated for our approved “alliance” affiliates will be forwarded to them in a reasonable timeframe (usually upon exceeding $250US). Heartbeat International deducts $30 plus 3% from the transfer, to help defray internal cost for money transfers, currency conversion, clerical costs, bank fees and any processing fees that might be charged. Should any funds be unable to be forwarded – primarily related to the recipient - they may be re-allocated for similar international work.

Pregnancy Care Center: A Place for Me
The mission of our Pregnancy Care Center is to affirm LIFE by providing confidential and non-judgmental assistance in a caring and supportive environment to all who are facing unexpected pregnancies.
To prevent abortions, child abandonment, and separation of children from their families in 2015 through our program The NEST we started to offer accommodation for pregnant women and moms with babies who do not have the needed support of their families or partner.
The NEST Maternity Home's mission is to minister Christ’s love and grace and provide different opportunities for pregnant women and their children in a safe and stable home environment, to empower them and educate them in many areas to help eliminate generational cycles of broken relationships, unplanned pregnancies, poverty and the need for community social services.

Defending the Work of Pregnancy Help Centers
Every day, life-affirming pregnancy help organizations face relentless attacks from pro-abortion activists, biased mainstream media, censorship from big tech, and hostile legislation at both the state and federal levels. Since the momentous overturning of Roe V. Wade, the battle to protect life has shifted from the federal courts back to the states. Pro-life advocates are working to pass life-affirming legislation and elect legislators who will protect the pre-born, while pro-abortion activists are trying to bypass the legislatures by enshrining abortion protections into state constitutions across the nation.
As we know, every election is important, and as we look forward to this November and into 2024, we see the growing need for the pregnancy help movement to step into the political conversation in defense of life. We must speak up and ensure our hard-earned victories are not erased, and abortion is not further embedded into our constitutions.
Voting your pro-life values and motivating others to do the same is an important way that we can ensure abortion is unthinkable for future generations.
